Biography of Johnny G. Vrana

Ennis, Texas

Johnny Vrana was a corporal in the United States Army. He joined the army on January 25, 1943, and received basic training at Camp Wolters near Mineral Wells, Texas. He was sent to Camp Campbell 10-miles south of Hopkinsville, Kentucky, and assigned to the 782nd Tank Battalion. He was transferred to Fort Knox located southwest of Louisville, Kentucky and later to Fort Bragg near Fayetteville, North Carolina. His last stateside assignment before shipping overseas was Camp Cook near Santa Barbara, California for final training before being sent overseas. He was killed in a train accident on January 17, 1945 in the Department of Eure in the northwestern part of France. He was buried in the U.S. Cemetery in the Department of Eure, France.

Johnny was the son of Joseph J. and Marie Sosolik Vrana of Ennis. He was born on December 28, 1922 in Ennis.

He is listed on the Memorial Monument to Ennis War Dead and the Ellis County Veterans Memorial.
