Biography of *William S. Sherrod

Ennis, Texas

William Sherrod was a private in the United States Army. He joined the Army on May 28, 1918, and trained at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. He was assigned to the 359th Infantry Regiment, 90th Division. Within a short time he was sent overseas, and his training with the 359th Infantry was completed in France. His first combat was in the area of St. Mihiel in the region of Lorraine in northeastern France. His unit was next assigned to the Meuse-Argonne sector where he was killed in action on September 12, 1918.

He was the son of Mr. Manning and Mrs. Mary Sherrod of Ennis. He was born in Stephenville, Texas in 1894, and moved to Bristol where he received his early education. He is listed on the Memorial Monument to Ennis War Dead and Ellis County Veterans Memorial.
