Biography of Herman Tate Shaw
Ennis, Texas
Herman Shaw was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army. He entered the Army in December of 1941, and trained at Camp Wolters near Mineral Wells, Texas, Fort Devens 35-miles northwest of Boston, Massachusetts and Ft. Ord north of Monterey, California. He served as a platoon leader in New Guinea. On January 8, 1943 while leading a patrol from an adjoining unit against enemy automatic weapons, which were holding up the advance of his command, he was killed in action.
Herman was the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Shaw of Ennis.
He was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross Medal and the Purple Heart Medal.
Herman is listed on the Waxahachie Daily Light Honor Roll, the Memorial monument to Ennis War Dead and the Ellis County Veterans Memorial.
