Biography of Marion Ruffus Mitchell

Marion Mitchell was a seaman first class in the U.S. Navy. He enlisted in the Navy Navy in October of 1942, and trained in Illinois and Virginia, and served in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He died on April 6, 1943 in the North Atlantic.
Marion was the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Mitchell of Italy, Texas. He was the husband of Ora B. Abbott Mitchell of Italy. He was awarded the Purple Heart Medal, Presidential Citation and Gold Star Citation. He is listed on the Ellis County Veterans Memorial.
