Wellington T. Mara
On August 14, 1941 Wellington T. Mara was 25 years of age, and in his 17th season with the New York Football Giants. He was Secretary of the Giants, and Jack was a 6'3", 200-pound freshman end from Baylor University and a member of the Giants 33-man squad.
Wellington Mara was the youngest of the two sons of Timothy J. Mara, who in 1925 purchased the franchise creating the Giants, and establishing New York's presence in the National Football League. It was on Sunday, October 18, 1925, when the Giants played their first home game against the Frankford Yellow Jackets, that Wellington Mara began his life-long career with the New York Football Giants.
Timothy Mara was a charter enshrinee in the Pro Football Hall of Fame as an Owner in 1963. Wellington Mara was enshrined in the Hall of Fame as an Owner from Fordham University in the Class of 1997. They were the first father and son to be awarded professional football's highest honor.
The 2001 NFL season is Wellington Mara's 77th consecutive season in which he is associated with the Giants.
