A Hero's Grave at Sunset
1st Lieutenant Jack Lummus
Myrtle Cemetery, Ennis, Texas
Before sunset, on a
cloudy Monday afternoon, Kevin Graves strolled through Myrtle Cemetery with
camera in hand taking a few pictures of some of the older marble monuments.
He stopped at the gravesite of Miss Katie Daffan, noted author and
historian, and 1st Lt. Jack Lummus, who died on Iwo Jima. Jack was posthumously
awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor.
While standing near Jack’s grave the clouds broke, and at sunset, a golden glow washed over pastels and Kevin, the son of George Graves, a good friend of Jack's, captured the definitive peaceful moment.
The picture, taken at sunset on Monday, February 5, 2007, is courtesy of Kevin Graves, Ennis, Texas.
