Dr. John Henry Curby
Ida (Mathews) Curby
Dr.
Curby was born in 1877, and died in 1964. He was a doctor of medicine, whose
practice was in Maypearl. His office was in the old bank building in downtown
Maypearl on Highway 66. Dr. Curby was respected in his community, as well as in
the whole of Ellis County. He was dedicated, compassionate, and a skilled doctor of
medicine.
Mrs.
Curby was born in 1883, and died in 1971. She gave birth to eight children:
Lottie, Ruth, Marcus, Loyd, Kathryn, Mildred Ann (who died at the age of six),
John and Ted.
Dr. and Mrs. Curby are buried in the family lot at Auburn Cemetery in Ellis County, west of Maypearl off Farm Road 916. A cenotaph stands in the family lot in honor of Dr. Ted Curby, who was first buried on Okinawa, and reburied in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas.
